I was given a copy of After the Fall - Tales of the Apocalypse by the publisher in exchange for writing a review, so here's that review

This collection of short stories contains apocalyptic fiction of an unusual (for me, anyway) sort one that doesn't focus on the means that have caused the apocalypse so much as the immediate after-effects. This provided for not only a wide range of imagined post-civilization landscapes, but also a wide range of hinted-at apocalyptic agents. The variety is probably the greatest strength of the book, and provides a testament to the different ways that humans imagine their eventual destruction.

I had two main criticisms, and one of them isn't even really a criticism so much as a whine. Number one I wanted MORE. There are a LOT of stories in this book, and most of them are quite short. On the one hand, this creates a rich array of microstories but also means that many stories feel like they end as soon as they begin. There were several that I wanted to see more of, especially more character development. So many of the stories focused on setting and describing the scenery of post-apocalyptic life that it felt like I was looking at someone else's holiday photos rather than being shown a fully fleshed out story. I don't know what kind of word limits were put on the authors, but I wanted most of the stories to be novels because I wanted so much more.

Number two there were a lot of spelling and grammar errors that could (and should!) have been easily corrected with a thorough proofread. In some cases, the typos were downright distracting.

All in all, though, this was an enjoyable and intriguing new take on apocalyptic fiction.
...Not great... I'm a big fan of short stories, especially apocalyptic ones, but I found a great many of these disappointing.
I get it, this is a book about apocalypse. It's probably going to have to have some grim parts to it.

But even by Apocolyptic book standards, these stories (after reading the first three) are super grim, devoid of all hope of any kind. They also plumb into pretty disturbing areas, like gang rape and eating children... it's fine to have elements of that in stories, but when those are essentially the only point of a story...

Even worse to my mind though, is that I simply found many of the characters in the first three stories unbelievable in terms of actions... The stories seem kind of preachy, in the way they suggest all of humanity inherently is terrible and there is no good to be found.

This is the first book of short stories I have ever read that I simply cannot risk poisoning my mind further by reading pass the third story.

I have liked many other apocalyptic stories, in fact it is my favorite form... but this one just runs contrary to the whole genre. In particular read "The End is Now" from the Apocalypse Triptych Book 2 to read a bunch of really well done apocalyptic fiction that strikes a balance and tells meaningful stories.
Excellent read for Zombie Lovers❣
Collection of short stories by (mostly) unknown authors. Some are quite good, some less so. A few have unexpected plot twists or present stories from an unusual point of view (first person narrative by the zombie!), but most are fairly predictable. Good read if you want to break the mold and read something a bit different for a change.
only a few stories in but they are fascinating so far. the book is compact and reads well, overall well put together. warning this is not like the hunger games or other silly varieties of apocalypse/dystopia, some stories are brutal and at times dark and very real seeming, as long as you like that it's perfect.
I guess I'm just too old for this new fiction. I found many of these short stories interesting but all but one of the zombie stories were boring at best, fantasy, not SCIENCE fiction. I do miss Frank Herbert, Asimov, and Heinlein. So that tells you the perspective of my review.
